Jen Reimer + Max Stein

May 16, 2013- Chimney in Skagaströnd, Iceland

We officially opened our Summer We Go Public program to the work of these two wonderful artists. Their site-specific sound installation is available for the duration of the festival to anyone willing to visit Skagaströnd and listen on site. Simply visit and download the soundtrack. Take your ipod or Mp3 player to the chimney in Skagaströnd, enter inside, sit upon the crafted wooden bench and listen to your surroundings and the correlating sound by Jen + Max.
You can’t miss the chimney- simply go down to the harbor and you will see it.

“This installation explores the soundscape inside the chimney in Skagaströnd, Iceland. On May 16, 2013 (a very windy day), we set up a bench inside the chimney (made by Nes Artist in residence, Jahnne Pasco White). We then sat on the bench and recorded the chimney’s sonic environment using binaural microphones.

Binaural recording is a method of recording sound that uses two microphones, arranged to create a 3-D stereo sound sensation for the listener of actually being inside the space where the recording took place.

With these recordings, we layered a composition of processed horn, mimicing the electrical drones surrounding the location.

We invite you to download our piece below, and with headphones, go to the chimney, sit on the bench and listen to our recordings from that very same place superimposed with the sounds presently existing in the space. What is recorded? What is not?”
